What is it like to be born with a Sun Moon square? In the beginning of my studies of Astrology I was taught just how important this aspect would be all my life. I was on a quest to understand: who am I? This would be the first step of my learning � my natal Sun is 18 degrees Cancer square the Moon at 23 degrees Aries.

I began with trying to understand what do the two signs Aries and Cancer mean when put together. Aries, of course, is a cardinal, fire sign, masculine in nature, enthusiastic, action oriented, impulsive, aggressive, impatient, also they hate to be wrong, their key phrase is I AM, and what I remember most in my learning was: Aries will go where angels fear to tread! Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and you will never find Aries just sitting and waiting to take action. They have a gift for waking up the rest of the zodiac.

Cancer of course is a cardinal water sign, feminine in nature, emotional, protective, nurturing, argumentative, sensitive, moody, their key phrase is I FEEL and if one thinks of the oceans tides it may help one better to understand the shifting of moods that take place within this sun sign. It is hard for Cancers to control their emotions, think of them like a psychic sponge soaking up all the emotions in them and around them. They respond to life with their emotions first - then their mind. They are slow moving people, think of the crab who carries it�s home on it�s back and how they retreat when slighted. Think how crabs click their claws together, snapping as they move forwards, backwards and to the side.

Cancer and Aries together � what happens? What does water do to fire? It puts it out. This combination will have the emotions ruling, this could be very indicative of an intense, impulsive person whose mood-swings are noticeable. Taking action without much forethought is Aries, but think what happens when Cancer realizes they have hurt someone. Aries likes to be up front, Cancer does not want to hurt anyone�s feelings. Result: open mouth, insert foot. I have a sign a friend made for me that says: A closed mouth gathers no feet. Very appropriate!!! The signs Aries and Cancer are both cardinal; to me this means Aries takes action, they want to be inspired as they lose interest very easily. Cancers are actively into their feelings and must guard against imagining others deliberately have set out to hurt them, or thinking such thoughts as �that negative remark was made just for me!� Cancer is a good business person, and because of this combination I would say they would do well in a business of their own. I don't know how well this combination would like being bossed, so owning your own business would be the perfect solution.

What does this square actually mean? Possibly when being raised one may have felt like two different people. Why? Moon is mother � Sun is father � these two very important people in your life may have had very different values, thoughts, ideas, so not liking to hurt anyone you accept each of their personalities, and incorporate both personalities into your life. This may lead to be the first ingredient of confusion in your life! Can you imagine feeling like you are split? Moon allows you to feel one way, the Sun is your will, your desire to shine, and you are then taken in an opposite avenue of thinking and feeling. You are also pulled between the masculine side of yourself, Sun, and the feminine side, Moon. Would that explain maybe why decisions are hard for a Sun Moon square to make? Think of the lack of inner peace that is within this combination.

On the one hand you are emotionally attached to all things and probably also material things; with the Moon and the fact that the sign Cancer is also involved (Sun in Cancer) this is a double connotation. Your emotions are in a battle, so to speak, with your spirit Sun, your drive Sun your ego Sun, your ability to give love Sun. So one of your main goals in life would be to bring yourself into a complete feeling of inner peace and harmony and balance.

Now don't ever underestimate a square we need them to accomplish goals in our life. This combination of Sun square Moon could bring to fruition many achievements, there is plenty of wisdom with a depth of understanding where one must go to accomplish. My belief is this: get your ego out of the way � there is no telling what one could master. Also my thoughts on this square are that one must accept hard work and self-discipline, only this can get you where you want to go. We all want the good old life with all the frostings, but discipline is needed with a Sun Moon square aspect. With this square also you may not feel as respected as others and maybe you feel you have to do a lot of proving of yourself!!!

Karmically my understanding of the Sun Moon square is to totally develop, in the most positive way, the sign your natal Sun is in. Only then when this has happened can you overcome your Moon. If this has not been worked upon, you will experience in your life battles between the feelings and emotions and your will. Because Sun has rulership over males, children, authority, love, love given, creativeness, leadership abilities, confidence, and ones vitality, you might experience emotional upheavals on any one of these areas throughout your lifetime. From a karmic viewpoint squares are lessons we failed to learn in other lifetimes!!! Now comes the challenge once again to face what we did not learn before and to see whether we can get it right this time!!! Hope this has helped in some small way.
